Rita Khin Memorial Scholarship
Rita Khin Ngwe was born in a small village near Rangoon, Burma. Her mother and father raised Rita and her 8 siblings as Christians in a Buddhist dominated country. She later went on to marry her late husband U Ba Ngwe who later converted his faith to Christianity. She then immigrated to the United States and graduated from Arizona State University with a Master degree in Education.
Rita got her first teaching job at Woodlake Union High School. Known to the students and staff as Ms. Khin, she taught advanced math courses such as Calculus, advanced algebra, trigonometry, etc. Although she had a reputation for being a tough teacher, she really enjoyed challenging her students to fulfill their highest potential. She taught for the next 31 years (1968-1999) until she retired at the young age of 76. After retirement, she and her former colleague(s) got to travel around the world. One of the true joys of her life was being approached by her former students who thanked her for being their teacher.
